NOTE 08 / HOME CARE REFERENCE

A notebook, with its sources open

Spoke & Chain Notes is an independent English-language reference for light bicycle care at home. It does not represent a workshop or a bicycle manufacturer.

What this notebook covers

The subjects are ordinary inspection, gentle cleaning, chain care and the questions to ask before a tyre or brake task. The writing is compiled reference material. There are no claimed personal ride histories, product tests, customer numbers or workshop qualifications.

Procedures and limits depend on the actual bicycle. Model-specific manufacturer instructions take priority over these general notes. Suspension internals, frame repair, hydraulic servicing, e-bike electrical work and tubeless installation are outside scope.

How to use the source directory

Start with the bicycle and component model, then find the relevant owner, user or service manual. Shimano and SRAM provide searchable technical document libraries. Trek, Schwalbe and Park Tool provide the general reference material linked below.

The links are reading references, not endorsements or evidence of a commercial relationship. External sites can change. Confirm that a document applies to the correct model and revision before using it.

A small, quiet website

The pages use local CSS and SVG illustrations. There are no external fonts, analytics scripts, embedded videos, accounts or forms. A reference link takes you to its publisher only when you choose to follow it.

The diagrams are original schematic illustrations, labelled as such. They are not photographs, dimensioned assembly drawings or proof of an inspected bicycle. Hosting infrastructure may have its own logging policy; these static pages do not set that policy.
